Preston Village Cricket Club - Club Charity

Who We Are
Parents And Their Children’s Health Work is a charitable organisation based in Prestonpans and covers the EH32 catchment area providing health information and play sessions for children 0-5 years. We aim to provide opportunities for you and your child to enjoy learning about each other, making friends and become prepared for playgroup, nursery and school.

Patchwork is run by a voluntary management committee of local parents with pre-school children. We work in partnership with East Lothian Council, NHS Lothian and other local community groups and services.  We run sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, 10am – 12 noon. Tuesday at the Pennypit Centre is Patchwork Health, focussing on the social and health development of our Under 1s. Wednesday at the Community Centre is Patchwork Play, focusing on developing social and play skills for 0-5 years.

We plan to run and participate in various workshops throughout the year aimed at improving parents awareness of child and health development. Further information can be found throughout our site.

What We Do

Patchwork Health – Under 1s

WHEN : Tuesday 10am-12pm

WHERE : Pennypit Centre, Rope Walk, Prestonpans, EH32 4BN

We provide a friendly meeting place and drop in clinic, where a health visitor is available from 10.30-11.30am to give advice and support where needed. There is the opportunity to weigh your baby after their 6 week check. However you are welcome to come along for a play and meet our users from bump! It offers a great way to make new friends and meet up with parents with babies of a similar age.

The first Tuesday of every month is a focused ‘Welcome’ session for new parents and carers to Patchwork, everyone; new and old users are welcome. The health visitors can give you information on the Breastfeeding support group.

There is crèche provision available for users of Patchwork Health. Please see crèche guidelines for terms of use.

Patchwork Health sessions are run by volunteer committee parents who set up the equipment, ensure they are available to answer questions and tidy up the equipment. We all have our own children and would be delighted for help and support during the sessions. If you are new to Patchwork, let the committee member know and they will get you to complete a registration form and chat you through the session as well as introduce you to other parents.

Patchwork Play – 0-5 years

Our session comprises of 2 hours of play and songs. As this is an adult and child session, we encourage parents and carers to participate in their child’s play and ensure they take responsibility for them at all times. Snack is available around 11am. We all tidy up together around 11.30, we believe encouraging children to tidy up teaches them life skills and also allows them to recognise the session is coming to an end. Song/Story time – 11.45, this is a lovely way to end the session for adults and children, we also use this time to pass on any important information.

Patchwork Play sessions are run by volunteer parents who set up the equipment, ensure they are available to answer questions, prepare snack, tidy up the equipment and lead a song session at the end. We all have our own children and are users of Patchwork, therefore it is important that all parents help during the sessions. As a user of Patchwork Play you will be expected to go on rota at least once per term, please chat to a committee member for further details and to find a suitable date.
